THE LA SALLE BOTANICAL GARDENS
IT IS FOR SCIENCE AND RESEARCH
La Salle recognizes the need for a concerted effort to preserve our biodiversity at the local and national level. This garden is a crucial starting point for the healing of our environment.
The Philippines has been identified as a center of biodiversity. However, about 70% of its native species are now threatened with extinction and need to be protected and conserved. The La Salle Botanical Gardens (LSBG) will address this problem by promoting the conservation of the species outside their natural habitats, by cultivation, propagation, and maintenance of collections while building knowledge on the species taxonomy, biology, ecology, and uses to man. It will also serve as a resource for future restoration of species populations in their original habitat and in the wild and rehabilitation of degraded of ecosystems.
The plan is to have nurseries, laboratories, seed banks, and herbariums, among others, to pursue the science and research goals of the project.
