Ready for More Seedlings!

The 2nd hardening nursery in the La Salle Botanical Gardens (LSBG) is now ready for more seedlings!  This was made possible with the donation of First Datacorp.

A hardening nursery serves as a second-stage growing area for seedlings.  As the name suggests, this nursery hardens and prepares the seedlings for harsher conditions outside.  The plants here are given a little more exposure to rain, sun and even small animals like birds and insects before they are transplanted.

For the LSBG, the establishment of nurseries is an important preparatory step.  For now, the species prioritized for collection and propagation include native trees, and large plants ideal for the future biological fences of LSBG. Soon we will start collecting and propagating species for the themed gardens and secondary forests.

The nurseries of LSBG also allow for partnering with organizations and enthusiasts of conservation, biodiversity and the promotion of native species.  In the future this will facilitate the development of the botanical garden as the LSBG intends to be an ecological sanctuary for local plants that are threatened or endangered.
